Engine rebuild soon
Question:
Iwill soon be doing a engine rebuild on my calibra. The reason im doing this is because the car was running only on about 60% compression and my head gasket recently cracked leaking heaps of oil ( 1L in 50km) and have oil in water, the engine is done 230000 and also the tappets ate staring to make the noise also my main seal is leaking so i was looking at about 2k repairs to go back to a tired engine.
I thought that i would keep the car for many more years because it is such a rare car to see in the streets and the shape of it is amazing even today ( they are mayor head turners)
I was wondering if i should get any upgrades inside the engine while im at it?
is it a good idea? i was reading about vernier cams but they say the pistons have to have bigget pockets.
I also realised that since they will be fitting new pistons and cornrods, i checked out the price of the pistons and for 200 bucks more i could get the low compression turbo pistons put in, that wouldnt run very well on the new engine until the car has the turbo in would it?
Anyone got any feedback on throttle bodies? Are they really worth the money, i saw some on some uk sites and the upgrade from 150bh to 195ish is about 3k.
Answer:
Get a haynes manual, and do as much as possible yourself, and get your parts from autovaux. i recently rebuilt my xe, and you can do it all for under 1k
